About us
I.C.U.T. was created in January 2005. It aims to offer quality tutoring in all subjects on a one-to-one and/or small group basis for examinations, assignment submission, essay and dissertation guidance at all levels of University and Sixth Form/Further education. I.C.U.T. tutors are well qualified, experienced with sound teaching records, and carefully chosen after the receipt of professional references. We began with 6 tutors and now have over 600 in all parts of the U.K..
Originally, the organisation was concentrated on students in universities and colleges in the West Midlands of England – meaning Coventry, Birmingham, Warwickshire and Wolverhampton. However, such has been the high demand for ICUT services, especially from overseas students, that a nationwide profile has been adopted. Also, on 12th February, 2007 in a move to coincide with the acquisition of our new city centre premises, ICUT upgraded to become The Institute of Independent Colleges and University Teachers (ICUT-UK). This development is about more than merely changing the name.
The new ICUT mission aims are four-fold:
First, to provide an ethical support service - at affordable rates - of tutors and proof-readers for university and college students struggling with their courses.
Second, to challenge the increasingly dubious claims by British universities to be providing "quality teaching" to students, and in the process to offer considered and viable alternatives to the current monopoly enjoyed by the state universities.
Third, to confront the culture of elitism and arrogance displayed by the state universities at all levels in their dealings with students and the private sector.
Fourth, to offer support to business and professional clients needing our services.

Since February 2007 ICUTs national headquarters has been based at Jesson House, Coventry, CV1 1JN. Also, ICUT has appointed a National President in the acclaimed Sociologist, Professor David Marsland, along with specialist officers to assist the Director. We expect these appointees to maximise service efficiency.
ICUT has developed a network of subject tutors in all parts of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We can meet the needs of students from universities and colleges throughout the United Kingdom, and in high demand subjects – eg. Maths, English, Social Sciences, Business Studies, Law and Economics, Engineering - the pool of teaching manpower from each area is considerable. So also does ICUT have manpower and resources for meeting specialist needs of the business community. e.g. foreign language tutors, technicians, computer tutors etc. Similar provision is available to Sixth Form & F. E. students seeking help with exam revision and/or vocational courses in all areas of the U.K..
